Welcome to the Bicycle Touring Europe web site.
We hope to help people to take a cycling holiday in Europe. We write cycling guides mainly about German speaking countries. Please check our catalogue.
Many cycle touring guides seem to describe some shorter tours in better known regions, but neglect large chunks of rewarding and scenic countryside. If you buy a copy of "Cycle Touring in Ruritania", for example, there could be cycle tours listed around the capital Strelsau, but little about the Zenda region which might be where you want to buckle your swash. When we're finished we hope we will have described the main features of each country in Europe with enough detail and links to help in starting to plan a tour. Obviously if you need more drop us an eMail and we will try to supply extra information or at least point you in the right direction.
The website is divided into four chapters:
About us which will give the reader some background information;
Cycling which offers information about cycling in various European countries, transporting your bike, tandem or trike by public transport, national cycle clubs, the rules of the road and what to do in the case of an emergency;
A photo album with photographs we have taken in various European countries
and a catalogue of our books.
Omnimap.com in Burlington, North Carolina now carries stocks of all our books. This makes it much easier and cheaper for our North American customers to buy our books.
We have dipped a toe in the ebook market and have produced:
"Following the Rhine gently upstream Rotterdam to Basel, a Cycle Tourist’s Guide". Price: 9.99 USD. 46010 words. This is a guide to bicycling along the Rhine from its North Sea estuary to the Swiss border across the Netherlands, through western Germany and eastern France.
"Mainly in High Gear A Cycling Guide to Lake Constance" Price: 9.99 USD
A guide to cycling around Lake Constance.
Cycling in Europe Price 0.99 USD
A compendium of advice based on the experience gained over thirty years of cycle touring in Europe.
Cycling the Romantic Road from Würzburg to Füssen Price 8.99 USD
A guide to following the Romantic Road, one of Germany's best known tourist routes from north to south.
In addition we have started to write a series of descriptive pamphlets of one day trips in northern Alsace and southern Rhineland-Palatinate, both wine-growing areas. These too are available from Guide Gecko as pdf downloads. Although we have only written one of these so far, we have enough information to write one or two more. Once the weather warms up we will return to research and write more.
Keep the rubber side down!
